AAM does not control the nature or content of listings provided by museums on this site. We urge museums to be clear, forthcoming and accurate when providing information about material listed here. We expect participating museums to act in accordance with the ethical standards of the profession. We provide numerous resources throughout the CEC site to help museums conduct these exchanges in a responsible, legal, and ethical manner.

We ask museums not to use the site to exchange human remains, material containing human remains, or living animals. We encourage museums to work directly with their colleagues at other institutions to find appropriate and respectful ways to locate new caretakers for such collections.

If you feel it is inappropriate, for any reason, for a museum to have posted specific material for exchange, we encourage you to contact the posting museum and explain your concerns. We view this site as an opportunity for the field to engage in mutual education.
